Position Summary

The Project Coordinator will play a crucial role in overseeing the day-to-day implementation of the DRR and CCA project in the target unions of Khulna and Bagerhat. The coordinator will ensure the successful delivery of project activities, facilitate effective coordination between stakeholders, and maintain strong engagement with local communities, local government bodies, schools, and relevant stakeholders. The Project Coordinator will be responsible for operational management, monitoring and reporting. 

Job Responsibilities

Project Implementation and Coordination:

  • Oversee and coordinate the day-to-day implementation of project activities at the field level.
  • Ensure the smooth operation of School-Based DRR Committees (SBDRRCs), Community-Based DRR Committees (CBDRRCs), Community-Based Emergency Response Teams (CBERTs), and other community-based structures.
  • Facilitate meetings and training sessions for community leaders, youth groups, schools, and local government representatives.
  • Monitor and support the field team in the execution of disaster preparedness activities, livelihood training, and community mobilization.
  • Ensure coordination with local authorities (Union Parishad, UDMCs/UzDMCs) and relevant stakeholders (e.g., NGOs, schools, health services) for project alignment and resource sharing.

Monitoring and Reporting:

  • Track the progress of project activities against work plans, deliverables, and timelines.
  • Provide timely and accurate progress reports, including field-level activity data and monitoring feedback.
  • Assist in data collection for baseline, mid-term, and end-line assessments, ensuring data is disaggregated (gender, age, disability) and reliable.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of training programs and community mobilization efforts to ensure sustainability.

Stakeholder Engagement and Community Mobilization:

  • Act as a liaison between the project team and local communities to ensure active participation in DRR and CCA initiatives.
  • Engage vulnerable groups, including children, youth, women, and marginalized communities, to ensure inclusivity in planning and decision-making processes.
  • Strengthen community ownership by providing ongoing guidance and support for the sustainability of DRR practices.
  • Promote child-centered DRR approaches and ensure children's participation in all relevant activities.

Capacity Building:

  • Facilitate capacity-building workshops and training on emergency preparedness, first aid, evacuation, climate-resilient livelihoods, and child protection in emergencies.
  • Support SBDRRCs, CBDRRCs, and CBERTs in developing their contingency plans and ensuring their integration with national and local plans.

Collaboration and Coordination:

  • Maintain regular communication with partner organizations, local government agencies, and other stakeholders to ensure effective project delivery.
  • Represent the project at community meetings, workshops, and advocacy events.
  • Support in advocacy campaigns for child-centered DRR, climate-resilient livelihoods, and policy reform at local and divisional levels.

Financial Management:

  • Monitor the budget execution at the field level, ensuring activities are within the allocated budget.
  • Work with the Finance Officer to ensure that financial records and receipts are accurately documented.
  • Report any discrepancies or issues with funds to the JAAGO HQ team for resolution.

Documentation and Knowledge Sharing:

  • Assist in documenting lessons learned, success stories, and best practices for dissemination to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure project files, reports, and data are well-organized and stored for future reference and donor compliance.

Safeguarding and Participant Support:

  • Act as a supportive, visible, and approachable presence for project participants, especially AGYW, fostering a safe and inclusive learning environment.
  • Help ensure that all participants are aware of the project's safeguarding policies and reporting mechanisms.
  • Report any observed or reported incidents of distress, conflict, or safeguarding concerns immediately to the Divisional Coordinator/Safeguarding Focal Point, maintaining confidentiality.


Qualifications & Experience 


Education:

  • Master's degree in Disaster Management, Environmental Science, Social Science, Development Studies, or a related field.

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience in managing community-based development projects, with at least 3 years in a coordination or managerial role focused on DRR, CCA, or resilience building.
  • Proven knowledge of community-based DRR strategies, Early Warning Systems, and climate-smart livelihood approaches.
  • Experience working with local government bodies (Upazila/Union) and school systems is highly desirable.

Practical Skills:

  • Excellent project cycle management (PCM), report writing, and financial management skills (ability to track expenses against activity plans).

Skills & Competencies


  • Practical understanding of the local community dynamics in the assigned location
  • Basic proficiency in using digital tools (e.g., Google Sheets, instant messaging apps) for communication and data entry.
  • Strong commitment to ethical practice and safeguarding children and vulnerable populations.
  • In-depth knowledge of community-based disaster risk reduction strategies, climate change adaptation best practices, and resilience building frameworks.
  • Practical experience in designing, implementing, or managing community-level EWS, including understanding information flow and technical deployment (e.g., Flag-Based EWS).
  • Knowledge of climate-resilient agricultural and economic diversification strategies suitable for vulnerable communities (e.g., the planned training on watermelon and sunflower cultivation).
  • Ability to translate field-level findings into actionable recommendations for integration into local government policies (Upazila/Union), and proven skills in organizing advocacy events.
  • Demonstrated experience in supervising, mentoring, and evaluating field-level staff (Project Officer, Mobilizers), ensuring team cohesion and performance.
